- In 1492, Ferdinand V of Aragon and Queen Isabella paid for Christopher Columbus to investigate the west looking for another course to India. Columbus arrived on one of the islands of the Bahamas by slip-up. His slip-up made Spain one of the wealthiest countries on the planet for a period.
